Hurricane Harvey hit Texas

The hurricane hit Texas around 11 p.m. ET on Friday, August 25, between Port Aransas and Port O'Connor. The Category 4 storm became a Category 1 by late Saturday morning, packing winds of 75 mph before Harvey stalled midday Saturday. By Sunday, it was downgraded to a tropical storm.
But days later, huge swaths of the 4th largest US city remained underwater and some places in Houston may be uninhabitable for weeks or months to come.
On Wednesday, it made another landfall near the Louisiana-Texas border. It then weakened over land and fizzled to a tropical depression on Wednesday night, with winds of 35 mph.
For the towns and the people who face an uncertain future, recovery from the monster storm could take years.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has said the bill for reconstruction after Hurricane Harvey could be as high as $180bn (£138bn).
He said the damage was worse than that caused by Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005.

Brock Long said Harvey should be a wake-up call for local officials.
Recovery operations are under way across Texas, and in neighbouring Louisiana, although many areas are still battling floodwater.
The devastating hurricane made landfall in the state a week ago and has been blamed for at least 47 deaths. About 43,000 people are being housed in shelters.
Uninsured and anxious, victims return home
How hard has Harvey hit the local economy?
The US government has already asked Congress for $7.85bn as an initial contribution towards recovery efforts, which Mr Abbott called a "down payment".
